Crate Training a 2 year old Min Pin?
I have a 2 year old Min Pin and he is still very much a puppy. You do not want to see him when he an actually puppy.
I let him sleep with me despite what everyone else said. WHY DIDN”T I JUST LISTEN?
Anyway, he sleeps with me and gets in the way. He moves around if he is uncomfortable. I get little legs kicking me sometimes.
What are some recommendations or advices out there for a dog owner like me?
If you don’t know min pins, they are the most stubborn little dogs ever.
It is not that difficult to crate train no matter what the age. I have a 13 year old that I took in through rescue. She had never been in a crate. Within one week she was in with no problems. She is now 13 and still loves her crate. Take a piece of your old clothing, something with your scent on it. This helps the dog feel you are still near by. Feed the dog in the crate. Make it a place the dog wants to go and needs to go. Be patient as the dog will at first be reluctant. Keep a few toys in their for chew purposes. Crate should not be too large. Keep in mind it is primarily a bed, more room than this can create problems. You are already aware of the obvious. Min Pins by nature are extremely independent and do not take well to over handling or human intervention. This is the way they were bred. Though to confuse their attitude with not being intelligent, they are actually quite intelligent, they just do not take too well to human direction as some breeds. They are treat oriented and this was key with all mine. At bedtime I let them out and then offer a treat at the entrance to the crate. They had no problems understanding the idea and now go to their crates and wait for their treats at bedtime. I currently have 10 with another on the way. My oldest slept with me until a few months ago and now wants to sleep in her doggie bed. I have 2 blind ones and one other Pin along with an IG that sleep with me, though the IG is also crate trained, he does well in bed and does not move around. Good luck.
